I believe the best way to feel happy, healthy and loved is to do something for ourselves. (I don’t mean attempting to rewire your house after watching a couple of videos or piling on more layers of stress and guilt because we simply can’t find time and energy to make and do everything we “should.”)
What I mean is, to do something for a reason, in a way that you love, and with someone. Whether it’s your favorite herb growing in a pot on your windowsill or a full-fledged vegetable garden, stocking up your canning shelves or an hour in the afternoon making a batch of special jam, try a wild edible that used to be a staple on great grandma’s table. Build an adorable birdhouse and hang it where you can see it, crochet a super soft and luxurious washcloth that you can’t wait to use, mix up a soothing cold relief syrup to share as the season changes, join a CSA and get to know the person who grows the awesome food you’re eating, or read a book written by a local author. You don’t have to do everything in order to do something!
Hi, I’m Alesia. I grew up homesteading: growing, raising & gathering our own food, building our own things, fixing our own equipment, cooking our own meals and making most of the things we needed. It was a dreamy childhood. Even though I left the countryside years ago, I always bring as much of it as I can into my backyard. I love the ritual of doing something with care, or doing it the way my grandma did it, or in a way that honors something our ancestors believed in. My soup garden puts wholesome yummy healthy food on my family’s table as well as several neighborhood tables at our local farmer’s market and provides a great outlet for my total adoration of making fun little garden thingies. I’d love to connect with you over garden stories & advice, fun and mostly healthy recipes, do it for yourself ideas and tutorials, and plenty of love to go around!
